Which video formats does it play?+

UTV Video Player handles all the common formats — MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV, FLV, WMV, 3GP, WEBM, TS, M4V and more — in HD. If a file won't open in your phone's built-in player, there's a very good chance it just plays here. It also plays audio/MP3 files.

Is the app really free?+

Yes. UTV Video Player is free to download and free to use. There's no signup, no account and no subscription — install it from Google Play and start playing your videos right away.

How do subtitles work?+

You have three options:

Download — search and pull subtitles straight from OpenSubtitles in your chosen language.
Load your own — open a subtitle file you already have.
Adjust & style — use Sync Adjust if timing is off, and change subtitle size, color and position. Turn on "remember" to keep your style across all videos.

Can it play in the background or in a pop-up window?+

Yes to both. Turn on Background Play to keep audio going with the screen off — great for music and podcasts. Or use Pop-up Play to float the video in a small window over other apps; this needs the "Display over other apps" permission, which the app will prompt you for.

How does the private folder keep my videos safe?+

Lock any video into the private folder and it's moved out of your normal library and hidden from the scan list, protected by a PIN — only you can open and watch it. You can add an email so your PIN can be recovered if you forget it, and unlock videos any time to move them back to the public library.

Can I improve the sound on quiet videos?+

Yes. The built-in equalizer has presets like Pop, Rock, Jazz and Classical, plus Bass Boost, a Virtualizer and reverb spaces. For recordings that are too quiet, Volume Boost pushes loudness beyond the normal system maximum.

Will it use my mobile data when downloading videos?+

Only if you let it. The built-in browser and video downloader include a "Download with Wi-Fi only" option, so large files wait for Wi-Fi instead of eating into your mobile data plan. Note that some sites (like YouTube) can't be downloaded due to legal restrictions.
